What's Next for Diary of a Future President?

Personal Note from the Writer:

Almost two years ago in August 2021, I made my initial post to this blog, announcing new blogs focusing on television shows and movies that interest me. Despite this, I have only published a handful of these articles, thus far touching on Diary of a Future President, The Facts of Life, Jeopardy!, and Lopez vs. Lopez. Starting today, I hope to try again with this foray into blogging. Let's begin!

Article:

Produced by CBS Studios, Diary of a Future President first released January 2020 on a weekly schedule on the relatively new platform Disney Plus. Though, on the release date of the premiere season's penultimate episode, the world changed forever when the incoming COVID-19 pandemic closed down society.

Over a year after the first season completed, a second was released to the platform on August 18, 2021, which was ultimately its last. While fanfare was provided to promote the season's release, I personally could not help but wonder if the series was being burned off, given the entire season released at once, which is typically at odds with the platform's release schedule.

Having gotten into the series myself around that time, I absolutely enjoyed watching the series, following Elena CaƱero-Reed and her family as they progress through life amidst them growing up both individually and as a family unit. Unfortunately for viewers, the series would ultimately canceled prematurely, leaving viewers with a cliffhanger without resolve at the end of an otherwise satisfying conclusion.

Up until last month, viewers could continue reveling in the rich series and watch the series for what it is, while Disney Plus dwellers such as myself could experience the series for the first time and become fans themselves. However, Disney Plus recently pulled the axe on this canceled series and others by removing them from their global platforms entirely.

This then brings up the question as to what is next for this series? For the time being, it appears that it would be unlikely for the situational comedy to reappear on any Disney platforms, preventing audiences to see the series. Furthermore, the show has yet to release on physical media, such as DVDs, preventing fans from owning the series as well.

Luckily, given that the series was produced by CBS Studios, there is a potential possibility for the series to find a new home in the future, such as with an ad-supported streaming service such as with Roku, Tubi, or Freevee. Though, given the series was prematurely canceled, it does bring into question as to whether the series would even be given the opportunity, or if it will forever become lost media without a home.

With the great representation the series provides as a family sitcom focused on a Cuban-American family, I hope CBS or Disney can give the series a new home where it can be introduced to new audiences and fans alike.
